July 2, 2026 As America marks its 250th anniversary, understanding our history is more critical than ever. Benjamin Franklin’s revision of the Declaration of Independence—replacing “sacred and undeniable” with “self-evident”—marked an early move towards a post-Christian West. 1776 was a pivotal year of independence and formative events, ultimately shaping a modern world defined by its WEIRD, ex-Christian, and Romantic characteristics. In this insightful mini-documentary, Keller Center fellow Andrew Wilson discusses this significant change. Andrew also spoke with Collin Hansen on Gospelbound about America’s 250th and his book, Remaking the World: How 1776 Created the Post-Christian West. Andrew unpacks the origin story of modern Western thought and explains why we must understand how our current cultural moment came to be. By knowing the grace of God and extending freedom to others, we can better appreciate our cultural context and learn to root ourselves firmly in God, even in a post-Christian generation. |
